40 Days of Opera: August 23 – October 2, 2016

In honor of Boston Lyric Opera’s 40th Anniversary, the Company kicked off the Season with a community-wide celebration of the art form, titled 40 Days of Opera (August 23 – October 2, 2016). Featuring opera-themed events and activities across the city – from performances to film screenings, lectures, walking tours, parties, online articles, one-of-a-kind videos and more – the initiative culminated in the launch of Boston Opera Calendar, an online listing of opera performances in the greater Boston area curated by the Boston Opera Alliance, a community-driven consortium of Boston-area opera organizations and producers.

Read on below for an archive of event information and social media activity that occurred during 40 Days of Opera, and thank you for joining our celebration of this unique and vibrant art form!

Henry Purcell Society of Boston Video #40DaysOfOpera. »
In a collaboration between three organizations, the Henry Purcell Society of Boston teams up with the actors of the Poet’s Theatre, and Arcadia Players period orchestra to present a rich delivery of Purcell’s ravishing music together with the poetry of John Dryden’s play. The creative team discuss Henry Purcell’s sumptuous Baroque musical masque accompanying John Dryden’s fantasy tale of King Arthur. This tale of King Arthur reveals the story that was the most well known until the last century; not of Lancelot and Guinevere fame, but of sorcerers and magicians, bloody battles, and Arthur’s quest to rescue his beautiful, blind lover, Emmeline from the clutches of evil. see video »
