Mid-19th-century America was a wild place…brawling, challenging, defiant—and full of operatic grand passion. While Walt Whitman exalted in the power of the human voice to express the soaring soul of this expanding country, the master showman of all time, genius huckster P.T. Barnum, produced the first superstar media circus in his presentation of the “Swedish Nightingale,” the great diva Jenny Lind, to ecstatic American audiences. Artists from BLO reveal these three extraordinarily vivid figures through their soaring music, their rhapsodic poetry, and their exuberant personalities.
