If you can write a story and sing it\, then you’ve created an opera! For rising 3rd-6th graders who love singing\, music\, and theatre\, Opera Kids is a special and exclusive opportunity to write\, compose\, and perform a mini opera in 1 week with Boston Lyric Opera’s master teaching artists! \nIn just one week\, participants will: \n– learn how to write a libretto (the text of a show) and create their own musical\n– compose and perform their own original songs\n– design and create costumes\, props\, sets\, and lighting with BLO Master Teaching Artists\n– share their opera in a special performance! From the lawn of the 1805 Commandant’s House\, BLO’s musicians will perform an open-air concert of fan-favorite opera and musical theatre repertoire\, all in sight of the U.S.S. Constitution and the U.S.S. Cassin Young. Experience songs from across centuries as we celebrate the founding of the National Park Service\, with special events happening across the country. \nFeatured Performers:\nJosie Larsen (soprano)\nJunhan Choi (baritone)\nBrendon Shapiro (pianist) \nLearn more about the National Parks of Boston\, the Charlestown Navy Yard\, and surrounding attractions. \nThis program is free and recommended for audiences of all ages. Playbills with texts and English translations of the multilingual program will be provided on site.   \nStreet Stage is supported by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and the City of Boston through the Neighborhood and Downtown Activation Grant.  \n  \nSTREET STAGE: WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!  \n \nArrival  \nEarly arrivals are encouraged. BLO staff will be on site to provide programs and answer questions. You are welcome to come and go during the concert.    \nSeating  \nSpace on the grass is first come\, first served. You are welcome to bring a blanket or lawn chair. A limited number of lawn chairs and benches will be available on site. Please prioritize seating for anyone with accessibility needs.   \nAccessibility  \nThere are wheelchair accessible paved paths surrounding the performance site. While all of the Charlestown Navy Yard is wheelchair accessible\, not all of the historic warships accommodate wheelchair access. If you need any special accommodation\, including access to parking closer to the performance site\, please email boxoffice@blo.org at least one week before the performance.   \n \nWeather  \nStreet Stage will proceed in a variety of weather conditions\, including direct sun and light drizzle. In the case of severe inclement weather (including storms\, strong winds\, and extreme heat) BLO staff will update our website with the new performance time. Register for the event to receive an e-mail with weather-related updates.  \nPublic Transit    \nThe nearest MBTA stop is North Station (Green and Orange Lines)\, which is a 17-minute walk. From North Station\, walk East on Causeway Street towards the Zakim Bridge/North End. At the first light (N. Washington Street)\, turn left and cross the Charlestown Bridge. Follow the Freedom Trail red-lined route to the Charlestown Navy Yard and enter through Gate 1. Look for Street Stage parked adjacent to the Commandant’s House. BLO's virtuosic musicians will serenade audiences in Boston's largest waterfront park with a delightful concert program featuring fan-favorite repertoire. There will be dinner\, yard games\, and family-friendly art activities provided by Boston Harbor Now. Bring your lunch and settle by the fountain or at cafe tables to enjoy virtuosic performances featuring BLO’s Jane and Steven Akin Emerging Artists. Enjoy sneak peaks into BLO’s 2025/26 Season as well as fan favorite repertoire you know and love. \nRegistration is not required but seating is first come\, first served. In the event of inclement weather\, the concert will be moved indoors to Rabb Lecture Hall. \nThis program is free and is recommended for audiences of all ages.
