Operabox.tv is not a traditional cable or broadcast channel on your television. Like Netflix, Hulu and other streaming platforms, operabox.tv is a service that you can access on an internet browser just like amazon.com or blo.org.

Soon, operabox.tv will be available through a branded app that you can download on your phone or tablet, or your app-enabled Smart TV.

From your computer, tablet or phone’s internet browser, type “operabox.tv” to access the site. You can start watching free content immediately, or, to access all the content available on operabox.tv, you can sign up for a Digital Subscription

A Digital Subscription unlocks all digital productions, livestream performances, and public events for you to view at your convenience. Digital Subscribers are the first to hear about events and new work, the first to access shows, videos and events, and receive early bird access to all upcoming performances.

You can purchase an operabox.tv Digital Subscription directly on operabox.tv (click “Sign Up Today” on the first screen) or on our website here.

Once you’ve subscribed, sign in by clicking “Log In” at the top right corner of the operabox.tv home screen and enter your credentials. A circle with an arrow next to it means you are logged in and you can access your account information.

A Digital Subscription to operabox.tv is available now for the introductory price of $79. On Dec 1, the price rises to $99. Buy now and be among the first to experience this innovation in digital opera.

You can also access operabox.tv content on a pay-per-view basis, like you would a movie rental or special sporting event.

Yes! BLO offers some free content on operabox.tv. All free content is available at operabox.tv under the Browse link on the home screen.

You can watch operabox.tv on any internet-accessible device. Here are the options:

  • From any internet-enabled device (computer, tablet, or phone), go to tv to watch content.
  • Download the operabox.tv app on your tablet or phone, or on a TV-connected device such as Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, or Roku.
  • You can access operabox.tv content on a pay-per-view basis, like you would buy a sporting event or movie from your cable TV provider.

BLO is waiving all purchase fees through June 2021, whether you purchase on blo.org, operabox.tv, on in-app. Enjoy the opera you love fee-free this season.

Operabox.tv will be home to all of BLO’s digital opera offerings. These include our digital production of The Fall of the House of Usher this winter and the upcoming spring miniseries desert in, as well as opera-inspired short videos from our Retro+ series, opera-related content like the series We Need to Listen: Conversations that Matter with Celeste Headlee  and all the great content from our acclaimed [insert:opera] series.

To access all the exciting content operabox.tv will offer, we recommend purchasing a subscription. An operabox.tv subscription is your all-access pass — you’ll never miss a thing.

If you’re not ready to commit yet, operabox.tv also offers the option to access some offerings on a pay-per-view basis, and our [insert:opera] content is available for free to everyone!

You do not! For operabox.tv subscribers, digital productions are available to watch on-demand following their premiere.

Not a subscriber? Much like movie rentals through your cable provider, Amazon, or other streaming services, many BLO digital productions can be accessed to view on-demand.

Live events are available for on-demand viewing approximately two hours after the conclusion of the event.

No, not automatically. But we make it easy to convert your previous 2020/21 subscription into an operabox.tv Digital Subscription.  Contact our Audience Services department at boxoffice@blo.org, or call 617.542.6772. You can leave a message and we’ll call you back.

After your purchase, you will receive an email within one business day (from our partners at support@vhx.org) with the subject line, “You’ve been given access to operabox.tv Digital Subscription.”  Instructions for setting up your account are inside.

No. These are two different log in credentials. If you purchase on operabox.tv, you will be prompted during the purchasing process to set up your email and password. If you purchase on BLO.org, you will receive an email from our hosting service with instructions on how to set up your log in credentials.

Don’t delete that! Vimeo is the service we use to host operabox.tv, and VHX is part of its services. If you receive communication from Vimeo about operabox.tv, you are receiving the right information.

How to Watch

Navigate to operabox.tv on your web browser to start watching! Operabox.tv is available for all internet browsers except Internet Explorer, which is no longer supported on Windows-based computers.

The operabox.tv app is available on the Apple App Store for iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices. It’s also on the Google Play store for Android devices.

Navigate to the app store for your device and search “operabox.tv” to download the app. Once you have downloaded the app, simply log in to your account to start watching!

The operabox.tv app is available on streaming TV devices including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku.

Also, you can cast your computer screen to your TV through Google Chromecast, connect your computer to your TV with an HDMI cord, or navigate to operabox.tv using the web browser on your Smart TV.

From the Amazon Fire home screen, select “Search” from the top navigational bar. Type in operabox.tv, then select it from the search results. Click “Get” to download the app.

You will find the operabox.tv app in the “Apps” section on the top navigation bar. The first time you open the operabox.tv app on your TV, you will be prompted to log-in. After that, you can open operabox.tv and start watching whenever you’d like.

From the Android TV Home screen, scroll to “Apps.” Select the Google Play app. At the top of the screen, select “Search” and type in operabox.tv. Select “Install” to download the app. The first time you open the app on your TV, you will be prompted to log in. After that, you can open operabox.tv and start watching whenever you’d like.

From the home screen of your Apple TV, launch the App Store. Select the “Search” option from the top bar and type in operabox.tv. Click on “Get” and then click “Buy” to confirm (it’s a free app, so you won’t be charged). The first time you open the operabox.tv app on your TV, you will be prompted to log in. After that, you can open operabox.tv and start watching whenever you’d like.

From the home screen on your Roku device, click “Streaming Channels” on the left sidebar. This will open Roku’s channel store. Select “Search Channels” and type in operabox.tv. Select operabox.tv and click “Add Channel.” This will add the operabox.tv app to your Roku home screen. The first time you open the operabox.tv app on your TV, you will be prompted to log in. After that, you can open operabox.tv and start watching whenever you’d like.

A Chromecast is a device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV and enables you to “broadcast” your computer screen onto your TV via the Chrome browser. You can find more info on how to use your Chromecast here.

If you do not own one of the streaming media devices above, you can still watch operabox.tv on your TV! One feature on most TVs is the HDMI port, and in most cases, you can connect your computer to your TV using an HDMI cable.

Usually, HDMI ports are found at the back of your TV. Attach your HDMI cable to this socket, and plug the other end into the computer with which you intend to stream. Most Windows PCs come with an HDMI port, but if you have a MacBook or another Apple computer, you will need an adapter.

Once you connect your HDMI cable, you may need to change your TV input settings in order to display your computer screen. Use your remote control to find the Source Menu, and select the source associated with the port where your cable is plugged in. This source is often labeled something like “HDMI1” or “HDMI2.” You may need to change the sound settings on your computer to ensure the TV is projecting the sound.

Once you are set-up, your TV should mirror your computer screen, and any actions you take on your computer will be visible on your TV. 

If your Smart TV has a web browser function, use this browser to navigate to operabox.tv. Open the web browser and type operabox.tv into the address bar just like on a computer. Log in to your account by selecting the “Log In” button in the upper right hand corner. Once logged in, you can view any operabox.tv digital production directly from your Smart TV!

To watch a live event, you need to be logged into your operabox.tv account. You can then navigate to the event by clicking on it from the operabox.tv home page.

If you log in more than 15 minutes before the event starts, the video will display as a static image, with a small “Off Air” icon in the upper left-hand corner. Approximately 15 minutes before the start of the live event, a countdown timer will appear. If the event is due to start in 15 minutes or less and the countdown timer hasn’t appeared, try refreshing the page.

If you arrive during the live event, you cannot rewind the live stream, but you can watch the entire event on-demand approximately two hours after it has finished.

All live events are available for on-demand viewing approximately two hours after the conclusion of the event. If you watch on-demand, a countdown timer plays before the live event begins. You can fast-forward through the countdown timer to start watching from the beginning of the event.
