We are so thrilled to see BLO artists featured in The Boston Globe’s Classical Music Yearbook, detailing the best live performances of 2024!
Best Operatic Cast
Aida | Boston Lyric Opera
“I had my doubts when BLO announced that it’s fall Aida would be a one-night-only concert performance, but as I exited the theater I was cursing the fact that I couldn’t tell my friends to go see it. Michelle Johnson’s enchanting princess in exile, Morris Robinson’s earth-shaking and tyrannical Ramfis, Brian Major’s firebrand Amonasro, and Alice Chung’s frankly stunning role debut as Amneris would all have been memorable on their own, but together they made magic.”
Breakout performance in a supporting role
Angela Yam | Mitridate | Boston Lyric Opera
“Yam transformed a character that could have been a snoozer into a scheming and savvy queen bee, with her on-point physical comedy only matched by her glittering soprano voice. She’s in the company’s emerging artist program this season, and as I wrote at the time, “one can only wonder what she’ll unleash when she fully steps out the door.”
