One minute, Cavaradossi is musing on his latest painting—and the diva Tosca, his beautiful, jealous lover. The next, he’s in prison with someone’s jackboot on his neck. Tosca’s options? Betrayal or rape. There are no good choices. Puccini storms the darkest of subjects with music passionate and lyrical.
