Emerging Artists
Boston Lyric Opera’s Emerging Artists are selected annually by invitation resulting from their presence at Company auditions or in BLO performances. The Artists have, in most cases, already established themselves professionally and are drawn primarily from the post-graduate and post Young Artist fields. In certain exceptional cases, younger candidates who are appropriate for specific repertoire with the Company will be considered.
Emerging Artists perform principal roles, comprimario roles, and covers in BLO productions throughout their time with the Company. The number of engagements each Emerging Artist undertakes is entirely driven by the casting requirements of the individual season. Emerging Artists have access to additional coaching with BLO’s Principal Coach, and the opportunity to work one-on-one with BLO Music Director David Angus. The Artists also engage in networking opportunities, and receive audition and repertoire feedback from BLO artistic leadership above that given during an opera rehearsal period. BLO’s expanding number of public and special events also affords each Artist the opportunity to perform at the Boston Public Library, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Company’s annual Gala.
