Dear friends,

As the curtain has closed on our fall Season, I find myself reflecting on the shared moments we have had these past few months. I am continually struck by the power of opera to create an atmosphere of connection, whether to speak to complex historical moments, prompt a belly laugh, or celebrate the bonds of family and friendship.

Some of my favorite highlights of our Fall season include:

  • Our largest audiences at Madama Butterfly since our 2016/17 Season
  • Over 2000 people engaging with our Butterfly exhibit, lectures, and partnership programs
  • Nearly 1000 student and community attendees at our Final Dress Rehearsals for Madama Butterfly and La Cenerentola
  • A backstage tour for over 60 students at La Cenerentola
  • Partnerships with ArtsEmerson, Fort Point Open Studios, the Japan Society of Boston, the Japanese American Citizens League, Boston Public Library, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum, The Boston Children’s Museum, VOICES Boston, The Greenway, and more
  • Recognition for BLO’s 2022 film Svadba in OPERA America’s Awards for Digital Excellence in Opera as the Winner for Artistic Creation

From the shores of Cape Cod to BLO Street Stage on the Greenway, to our pair of mainstage productions, our stages (and screens) were filled with significant milestones and abundance of joy, thanks to the remarkable energy and support of our artists, crew, staff, and you, our audiences.

As we begin preparation for our spring Season, we carry the joy and energy of these moments with us, excited for the adventures that lie ahead. Your continued support and dedication are the driving forces behind the magic we create on stage.

Thank you for being an integral part of our artistic family. We look forward to sharing more operatic moments with you in the months to come.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Bradley Vernatter
