Boston Lyric Opera’s Poetry in Music, brings together the work of prominent poets and opera composers
with roots in Boston to create new musical works and artistic experiences, presented in collaboration with the City of Boston.

The first Poetry in Music performance debuted this spring with the song cycle “my name is Alondra”, featuring poems by City of Boston Youth Poet Laureate Alondra Bobadilla set to music by tenor and BLO Emerging Artist Composer Omar Najmi.

BLO Street Stage hosted the World Premiere of this newly commissioned work on Saturday, May 1 at Rowes Wharf Plaza on The Rose Kennedy Greenway. BLO Emerging Artist Zaray Rodriguez and pianist Brendon Shapiro, an Emerging Artist alumnus, performed.

Commissioning support for “my name is Alondra” is provided by the Merrill Family Charitable Foundation.
